Assigned to design a simple creature mark using elements of shape, point, or line. Tasked to place the design into a composition that incorporates typography, color, and the fibonacci sequence.
RESEARCH
The first step in creating the creature was researching the creature. Decided to design a mark for the blue ringed octopus. Made a list of four tangible and intangible traits to incorporate into my design.
Tangible Attributes:
- Large Round Head
- Short Tentacles
- Rings All Over Body
- Horizontal Pupils

Intangible Attributes:
- Venomous
- Curious
- Non-Aggressive
- Shy
SKETCHES
Discovered that the design would benefit from the use of implied line. Attempted to break the design down into shapes, using negative space for the majority of the creatures form.

DIGITAL ITERATION
Experimented with line weight, and details such as the form of the rings, placement of the tentacles, curvature of the iris, inverting positive and negative space, and the direction that the octopus faces.

TYPOGRAPHIC COMPOSITION
Part two was to take the creature mark and incorporate it into a typographic composition. The composition required the use of type and color, and had to conform to the fibonacci sequence.
DIGITAL ITERATION
Used only curvilinear shapes, to portray the fluid-like nature of the octopus. I iterated with waves, bubbles, and tentacles to bring cohesion to the piece.
